The boards of the Erie County Visitors and Convention Bureau and the Ottawa County Visitors Bureau approved management agreements that put their destination marketing, paid for by each county’s lodging tax, under the Greater Sandusky Partnership, the merged chamber and economic-development group. The partnership announced the votes Aug. 6 and said a final agreement among all four organizations was expected by Sept. 1. On that date Eric Wobser, the partnership’s chief executive, became chief executive of Shores & Islands Ohio as well. Commissioner Luvada Wilson resigned from the Sandusky City Commission effective immediately, the city announced Aug. 19, citing health. She was elected in November 2025 and took office in January, so she served about eight months of a term; before that she was Erie County clerk of courts from 2011 to 2024, a law clerk to Judge Tygh M. Tone, and a county probation officer. What happens next is set out in Section 5 of the city charter, and it is worth knowing because it runs on a clock rather than on a vote. The seat goes first to the highest vote-getter from the November 2025 election who was not elected, provided that person is still qualified and willing: Tim Schwanger, who finished fourth. The commission clerk had seven days to notify him, and he then has 30 days to accept or decline. If he declines or cannot be reached, the remaining commissioners fill the seat by majority vote. The Civilian Marksmanship Program broke ground Aug. 3 outside the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center at Camp Perry for a new indoor range with 32 firing points for 50-metre and 25-metre rifle and pistol events, plus expanded retail, a restaurant, lockers, a gym, competitor and spectator space, a new entrance courtyard and an awards plaza. Estimated completion: December 2027. The design-build contractor is Sevan Multi-Site Solutions, veteran-owned, of Downers Grove, Illinois. CMP chief executive Jerry O'Keefe said the facility will serve “aspiring youth alongside elite athletes” and named a goal of bringing the NCAA Rifle Championships to Ottawa County. Emcee Brad Donoho called it “a place for current and future Olympians to prep for the world stage.” On the dais: Ohio Lt. Gov. Jim Tressel, U.S. Rep. Bob Latta, Ohio Army National Guard Col. Jonathan Stewart, Port Clinton Mayor Mike Snider, and Gary Anderson himself. Latta, whose father trained there with the Guard and who first visited as a boy in the 1960s, said the most recent available figures put the National Matches' local economic impact at $34 million a year. Snider, who started volunteering in the pits at Rodriguez Range at about twelve: “This place is an economic driver. Sandusky police were called at 12:26 a.m. Sunday to a home in the 1200 block of East Parish Street, where two men were found shot. Officers gave aid before the fire department took both to Firelands Regional Medical Center; both are now in critical condition at MetroHealth in Cleveland. Chief Jared Oliver says officers had to manage “numerous individuals whose actions interfered with emergency response efforts” — several people were arrested and charged with misconduct at an emergency, at the scene and again at the hospital. He attributes the crowd to a pool party in the neighbourhood, and thanks the Erie County sheriff, Perkins Township police and the State Highway Patrol: “Their support at both the shooting scene and the hospital was instrumental.” ⚠️ Three things this paper will not print. One outlet, citing an unnamed source, reported early Sunday that a victim had died; the same outlet's later update says both are alive, so we are not repeating the death claim.
