A Lucas County judge put the trial of two 18-year-olds off until Jan. 25. They are charged with murder in the dragging death of Joaquin Simmons. He granted the delay after a lawyer for Chase Davis, of Maumee, said Davis was hiring a second lawyer who needed time to prepare. Davis and James Ramsey, of Toledo, are each charged with murder, aggravated robbery and felonious assault in a March 29, 2025, robbery. Prosecutors say Simmons, 18, held on to a box of shoes as the car drove off on East Oakland Street. He was dragged several blocks and died four days later. The judge set a Jan. 4 hearing on the motions left. One is a prosecution request about whether the defense may call a doctor who evaluated one or both men. A third defendant, Tynarius McFarland, admitted delinquency for involuntary manslaughter in March.
