This paper has no database. The site runs as a single Cloudflare Worker whose only attachment is the folder of files it serves — no key-value store, no database, no bucket, nowhere to put a record of you even if the desk wanted one. The two cookies it sets are self-verifying signed tokens: the site checks the signature and lets you in without looking anything up, because there is nothing to look up. The paper does not hold a list of who is reading it. It cannot.Este periódico no tiene base de datos. Your address is not in it — the identifier is sixteen random bytes, not your email, and it cannot be turned back into your email by us or by anyone who reads it. Google Analytics and Cloudflare's own analytics count which pages are read, roughly where from, and on what kind of device. This desk uses it for one thing: deciding which sections are worth the hours. A section nobody opens is hours that should have gone somewhere else. Your search terms go into the page address — /search.html?q=the words you typed — and the page address is exactly what a measurement tool records. So although the searching never reaches us, the words can still reach Google Analytics as part of the address of the page you were on. If that matters to you, switch the tag off before you search. The one other thing stored locally is the opt-out flag above. Stripe takes the payment on Stripe's own checkout. This site is a static site with no database; it could not store a card number if it tried. What this paper sends Stripe to open a checkout is the amount, the name of the thing being paid for, and — only if you ticked the box asking to be credited — the display name you typed for the sponsors wall. Google receives the analytics events described above, and also serves the typefaces this paper is set in, which means a request reaches Google when a page loads. Buttondown holds the mailing list.
