Lenawee is on Michigan’s new map of sick deerLenawee aparece en el nuevo mapa de venados enfermos

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has published a map showing where deer suspected of having epizootic hemorrhagic disease have been reported, block by block, at the level of every 36-square-mile township-range block. Lenawee and Washtenaw counties are among the 15 Michigan counties with laboratory-confirmed cases this year.

Fifteen counties is fewer than the 16 of 2025 and the same as 2024. The new thing here is the map, not a newly discovered outbreak: DNR has confirmed EHD in deer in Lenawee and Washtenaw counties this year.

The department is blunt about what the map is not. “EHD reporting is voluntary,” it says, and the map should be read as an indication of reported activity, not “a precise count of deer deaths or complete assessment of where EHD is and is not occurring.” Not every report can be laboratory-confirmed, so the department says the disease is occurring in places with no confirmation on the map.

A person who finds a dead or visibly sick deer can report it through the department’s Eyes in the Field form. The map is to be updated about weekly while the outbreak is active. The disease is spread by biting midges; a frost is what usually ends a season of it.Quien encuentre un venado muerto o visiblemente enfermo puede reportarlo por el formulario Eyes in the Field del departamento.
